Farmers wishing to sell their produce to the Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA) will have to state their interest three weeks before they harvest their commodities.
AMA executive chairman Jone Sovalawa said this would give them time to make necessary arrangements in terms of transportation and other logistics for the farmers.
“The whole idea behind this notion is to ensure farmers have access to markets,” Mr Sovalawa said.
“If their produce is not purchased by AMA due to oversupply, then AMA can arrange other avenues for farmers to sell their produce. At the end of the day, it is for their benefit.”
Farmers are encouraged to only supply good produce as a lot of farmers complain about the high percentage of rejects.
“AMA is not a dumping ground, hence; it must get the best and it will pay farmers the best as well,” Mr Sovalawa said.
