“Sowing Seeds of Prosperity: The Transformative Journey of Fiji’s Rural and Maritime Farmers with the Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA)”

The Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA) reaffirms its commitment to fostering inclusivity and empowering women in rural and maritime areas across Fiji.

AMA is proud to announce its concerted efforts toward creating a nurturing environment conducive to growth and development for all members of the farming community.

AMA Executive Chairman Mr. Jone Sovalawa emphasized the importance of inclusivity and fair opportunity in today’s changing times.

“As we progress, it is imperative that we embrace inclusivity, providing equal opportunities for all. AMA is dedicated to serving the inaccessible rural, remote, and maritime farming communities of Fiji, ensuring their livelihoods are supported and improved through employment and income generation,” Mr. Sovalawa said.

Despite the historical dominance of males in the agriculture sector, AMA is determined to break these barriers and extend its services to women farmers.

“We encourage women in Fiji to avail themselves of the services provided by AMA. This is an essential avenue for their empowerment and advancement,” Mr. Sovalawa affirmed.

Highlighting AMA’s commitment to inclusivity, Mr. Sovalawa noted that over 60 percent of the organization’s workforce comprises dedicated women from diverse backgrounds.

“At AMA, inclusivity is not merely a concept; it is ingrained in our culture.

We recognize the invaluable contributions of our female staff and strive to create an environment where all individuals are respected, appreciated, and rewarded for their hard work,” he added.

Recent developments indicate a growing participation of women in AMA’s services.

Particularly in the Eastern division, including the Tailevu and Rewa provinces. Ms. Amelia Liku, a farmer from the region, shared her experience, emphasizing the convenience and benefits of accessing AMA’s facilities.

“For us, this is very convenient because instead of sitting out there in the market the whole day, we can come here, sell our produce, and then go back home to do other things,” Ms. Liku remarked.

AMA’s initiatives not only provide economic opportunities but also address the challenges faced by women farmers, including health risks associated with transporting produce to marketplaces.

By offering accessible and efficient services, AMA aims to enhance the well-being and prosperity of rural and maritime communities across Fiji.

The AMA invites all women farmers in Fiji to explore its range of services and join hands in building a vibrant and inclusive agricultural sector for future generations.
